The following is a Thanksgiving guest blog entry from Tony:

Hi, Tony Hartl here, wishing each and every one of you a Happy Thanksgiving! I wanted to take a moment on this important day to tell all of you who have “liked” my page on Facebook, all of my followers on Twitter, and each of you who have visited my web site that I deeply appreciate your support and interest in Selling Sunshine, my book on entrepreneurship.

I hope that as each of you begin and continue your entrepreneurial journeys, you’ll be able to learn some of the hard lessons of running a business a bit more easily than I did, and I’m grateful for having had the opportunity to put my own lessons into writing.

This year, I’m particularly thankful for my son Anthony, who will be running his first 5K race at this morning’s Turkey Trot. I have a great deal to be thankful for, and I’m sure that each of you do as well.

So as you sit down to your turkey this year, I hope that you take the opportunity to tell your loved ones that you’re thankful for them.

Happy Thanksgiving!

An interesting piece in City Journal talks about the importance of entrepreneurship in our major cities. Both historical data on entrepreneurship in New York city and some relevant comparisons make Edward L. Glaeser’s point: that entrepreneurs define a city’s promise, and its future:

Studies have shown that all over the country, entrepreneurship—along with January temperature and education—is one of the three great predictors of urban success. But nowhere is that more the case than in Gotham, whose very history is a tale of entrepreneurship. To survive, New York must continue to bring forth innovators who will reinvent the city—with luck, making it more economically diverse. If they succeed, it will change as much between 2010 and 2050 as it did between 1970 and today.

From the interview:

TH: “You can do it. If you’re willing to metaphorically ‘bring a blanket’ to sleep in the office when you have to, and work hard over the long haul, you can do whatever you set out to accomplish. It may not be easy, but if you do what you love and love what you do, you cannot fail to find happiness and prosperity.”
